Fins - New Sushi in Beacon Hill

Things have been pretty crazy in the world of In and Around Town, and while it may look as though I haven't been eating out much, I actually have and cannot wait to catch you up on all the fantastic places I have been.  First on the list: Fins Sushi and Grill, a new Sushi place on Beacon Hill.  Fins had been teasing the people on the Hill for quite some time - the signs were up and construction was underway, but it seemingly took forever to open!  While I love Zen, options are always good.

We were seated straight away after arriving, ordered a couple of beers upon sitting and then set to work reviewing the menu.

Asian Beers
To begin, as always, we ordered some edamame.  It was well cooked and salty - just the way I like it.

Wanting to switch things up in the appetizer area, we also ordered the yellow tail serrano, with thinly sliced yellowtail dressed with jarpornio pepper, served with ponzu sauce and a touch of grape seed oil.  This was fresh and clean tasting with a definite spicy kick, and was a great plate to start with.

When looking over the sushi rolls, there was a fun and creative mix of flavors, fish, and sauces.  We went with the a Mexican Roll (spicy tuna, avocado wrapped with tabasco sauce), Yellow Fin's Roll (spicy tuna, avocado, mango wrapped in soy bean sheet, deep fried with honey wasabi), Scorpion Maki (grilled eel, cucumber, avocado and tobiko wrapped with shrimp), and House Dragon Maki (shrimp tempura, crab stick, topped with eel, avocado and tobiko).

The rolls were delicious - complex, with loads of textures and flavors in each bite, and trust me, these needed more than a few bites to finish.  I loved the unique combination the menu offers.  While I love the clean sushi of Zen, Fins offers a great selection of sushi that mixes everything up a bit.

For dessert we were actually given a complimentary mochi because one of the Mexican Roll pieces slid right off the plate (saucy sushi and a flat plate make for difficult serving!).  I never think to order mochi, but when I do I remember how delicious it is!  Soft rice cake surround the ice cream filling, making for another fun texture contrast.

Fins is a great addition to the Beacon Hill neighborhood.  That, and another sushi option close by makes me a happy camper.

Fins has two other locations, Kenmore and Chestnut Hill.  I would definitely check them out!
