Divergent Trilogy- new guilty pleasure

With books, I am not afraid to indulge in a little YA guilty pleasure reading.  After loving Hunger Games, I was looking forward to finding something as much fun as that series.  When Entertainment Weekly started covering a new series and talking about a movie, I debated on whether or not I wanted to go down that rabbit hole.  When I saw the kindle price was around $5, I saw no reason not read at least the first one and see how it went.

36 hours later I completed the first book and was downloading the second book.
The Divergent series is set in a dystopian Chicago where people are divided into 5 factions, each having a dominant virtue: Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the truthful), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Erudite (the intelligent).  The lead character, Beatrice (Tris) grew up in the Abnegation but when she turns 16 she, and every other 16 year old, goes through a test to determine what faction they belong in.  When the test comes back inclusive, Tris changes factions and selects Dauntless.  During the initiation procedure for Dauntless, Tris is tested beyond anything she has ever expected within the faction but also between the major factions themselves.

Without giving away too much, Insurgent picks up right where Divergent leaves off and continues to tell the story of the battle.  The third and final story does not come out until October and needless to say I cannot wait.  Luckily, Veronica Roth, the author is putting out some short stories telling the same story but from the point of view of the male lead, Four.  Only one is available so far (which I read within minutes of finishing Insurgent), but I'm looking forward to having them to tide me over as they are released until the third and final book, Allegiant is released.

  2. YA is my preferred fiction reading. The stories are more gripping and exciting. This sounds like a good story, the way you devoured the first two is definitely a mark in its favor. water damage Boston MA

  3. That is interesting that it would be like that. Was it like that on purpose. Because that is a great addition.
